About this course

This course is for students 19 years old and over. Usually you will need at least a Level 3 qualification in the subject area you want to teach. Sometimes, considerable industrial experience can be counted instead. Good skills in written and spoken English. Need to be teaching/training whilst the course is running.

Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector Year 1 Diploma (awarded by Canterbury Christchurch University)

Course content:
This represents the first year of the two years it takes to become fully qualified to teach or train adults. It conforms to the new Government standards for teacher training. It will provide access to the second year and will also allow achievement of the Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector (PTLLS) award and the Certificate in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector (CTLLS) award.
You will study 3 modules (each worth 20 HE credits each) which will allow you to consider:
-planning and Assessing Learning
-Learning Theories
-Developing Teaching Resources
-Managing the Classroom/Training environment

This will provide access to the second year and will also allow achievement of the Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector (PTLLS) award and the Certificate in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning sector (CTLLS) awards.

Course Structure:
Modular - three modules studied during the year. First module allows award of PTLLS

Course resources:
You will have access to: the College Learning Centre, a virtual learning environment linked to the course, and will be provided with a variety of information packs and handouts linked to the modules

Assessment:
You will be observed teaching on a number of occasions; in addition, the different modules will require you to present, write essays, carry out research and keep a professional development record.

The fee where stated is an 'INCLUSIVE FEE' for UK/EU students. This fee includes the tuition fee, examination fee and exam board registration fee. You may have to pay extra for materials for the course. If you are under 19 years or you are in receipt of an income related benefit the course and exam fee is FREE. Students aged 60+ years pay 70% of this fee. Students aged 19+ will also have to pay a College Registration Fee of £30 (or £20 if you receive benefit) once per academic year.Materials costs:
The tutor will advise you about any materials costs.
