This programme has been designed to meet the needs of people with learning difficulties and or disabilities. What will I study?
The course is made up of different modules with an emphasis on working towards independence. The activities within the modules are designed to take into account the interests and needs of the learners on the programme. The modules aim to cover a range of activities including: Business Enterprise; Home Management; Using Leisure Time; Community; ICT; Literacy and Numeracy. Learners will be able to gain certificates in ASDAN Towards Independence and City&Guilds certificates in Adult Literacy and Numeracy if appropriate.
ASDAN is nationally recognised and can be used to move onto other learning programmes or to show to employers.

How will I learn?
The course is taught in real world situations with an emphasis on practical work.
Learners will visit local facilities to practise money skills, meet people and deal with different situations encountered in every day life. The course is taught in a variety of different ways including practical, academic, small and large group work, individually and both in college and within the local community.

How will I be assessed?
Work is assessed throughout the course in a variety of ways, e.g. photographs, audiotapes, practical assessments and completing assessable work sheets. Learners put together portfolios that are assessed both internally and externally.

Where could it lead?
The course aims to extend the experience of the learner and provide a stepping stone to independent life where existing skills can be put to good use. The course aims to foster a maximum degree of independence and self confidence to enable learners to participate fully in areas of work and leisure. Progression may be available onto the Skills For Work course if appropriate for the individual.
