Based just north of the university town of Cambridge, the Academy of Advanced Beauty supports students and practitioners in their careers offering Level 4 and short courses, focusing on advanced aesthetic treatments and providing accredited training across the beauty and aesthetics sector.

The owner of the Academy, Barbara Freytag, is a former radiographer and ultrasound specialist. Sitting on the Joint Council of Cosmetic Practitioners (JCCP). She is now a principal lecturer of the centre, currently participating to the formulation of industry wide standards across the beauty and aesthetic treatment sector in the UK.

There are different award-winning elements of AAB training. According to Barbara Freytag:

“The best element of our training is our personalised approach. Each student comes to us with a different goal and with different requirements so we feel it is important to help them achieve their goals, rather than just providing them a cookie cutter learning experience. Our attention to detail in ensuring that the student can perform the treatment safely and feels confident at all times, is where we pride ourselves the most.”

What is your area of specialisation within the Beauty & Aesthetics sector?

As a training provider, Academy of Advanced Beauty focuses on non-invasive cosmetic treatments such as contouring, cellulite reduction, slimming, and non-surgical face-lift (specifically High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound), using the latest state-of-the-art equipment and technology.

Do you have any new courses which you feel stands out from the rest?

The new HIFU (High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound) course enables successful students to make far better and safer judgements regarding the treatment and to optimise the post-treatment outcome of our clients. This is one of the most popular treatments in the industry as results can last from 1-2 years, leading HIFU to be known as the “non-surgical alternative to the face-lift”.

Academy of Advanced Beauty delves further into the science behind the treatment than the mere machine operation and, because of it, the new HIFU energy is delivered deep beneath the skin at appropriate temperatures, at three separate chosen levels (4.5mm, 3.0mm and 1.5mm).                                                                                                                                                                                                                          This heat causes the formation of a series of thermal coagulation points at approximately 1mm cubed. Temperatures between 60 – 70 degrees centigrade lead to collagen denaturation, leading collagen to quickly go about repairing itself. Visible changes start to be seen immediately after the treatment and, only after three months, the full benefits start to show.

What sets you apart from other establishments offering similar courses?

We tailor each and every course to students’ needs and goals and we firmly believe that our holistic approach to training gives immeasurable “value added” to our courses.

We commit to ensure that our students feel comfortable performing the treatment and operating the machinery. For this reason, we offer extensive manuals covering core knowledge in conjunction with the practical element of the course, as well as having an understanding of how to best complete a client consultation.

In addition, before we award our diploma, if students feel like they need more support, we work with them until they achieve the necessary skills and the confidence they require.

Have you received any award recognition over the past 12 months?

Academy of Advanced Beauty has recently won LUX International’s “Best Aesthetic Training Provider – UK” award for the second year running and has been finalist, for the past three years, in the “Safety in Beauty Diamond Awards”.

Because of our commitment to safety in the aesthetic and beauty industry, in March 2017, the Academy was chosen to be the official training partner of the Clinical Cosmetic & Reconstructive Exhibition.

We are excited to work together with CCR to promote the importance of high quality training across the industry and as Norman Waterhouse, Chairman of the CCR Medical Advisory Committee, said “CCR Expo is well established as the UK’s leading teaching and education event for medical aesthetic professionals.”

Do you have a high number of returning students? If so, what would you say the main reason for this is?

Students come to our academy from all over the world, and many of them appreciated our holistic approach so much that, after graduation, often return to take further courses.

Our academy has a comprehensive approach to training and we believe that an in-depth understanding of the core knowledge behind the treatment is essential for therapists to be able to advise and treat clients optimally. In addition, all of our courses qualify for insurance cover and CPD points which allow students flexibility for whichever path they chose to embark on after our training.
