Front Office NVQ Level 2
Overview
Level 2 Front Office NVQ has been developed from the National Occupational Standards produced
by People 1st, the Sector Skills Council for the hospitality, leisure travel and tourism industries and is designed for people who are involved in housekeeping as their primary work activity and wish to receive recognition for their Housekeeping skills and experience.
To achieve a full certificate in Front Office NVQ you are required to complete the 4 mandatory units
plus 4 optional units.
Outline Programme
The course covers the following syllabus:
MANDATORY UNITS:
All candidates must complete the following four units:
- UNIT 101 (2R1) Deal with communications as part of the reception Function
- UNIT 22 (1GEN1) Maintain a safe, hygienic and secure working environment
- UNIT 25 (1GEN4) Contribute to effective teamwork (CfA)
- UNIT 87 (2GEN1) Give customers a positive impression of yourself and your organisation (ICS)
OPTIONAL GROUP A:
The candidate must complete two of the following optional units:
- UNIT 104 (2R2) Deal with the arrival of customers
- UNIT 105 (2R3) Deal with bookings
- UNIT 106 (2R4) Prepare customer accounts and deal with departures
- UNIT 23 (1GEN2) Maintain and deal with payments
OPTIONAL GROUP B:
The candidate must complete two of the following optional units:
- UNIT 107 (2R5) Exchange foreign cash and travellers cheques
- UNIT 108 (2R6) Prepare and print documents using a computer (CfA)
- UNIT 109 (2R7) Record, store and supply information using a paper-based filing system (CfA)
- UNIT 110 (2R8) Handle mail and book external services
- UNIT 111 (2R9) Resolve customer service problems (ICS)
- UNIT 102 (2R10) Enter, retrieve and print data in a database (CfA)
- UNIT 103 (2R11) Identify and provide tourism related information and advice

Designed for: Those working in an Hotel Reception environment
Course duration: Assessment time can vary depending on the learners previous experience and their job role
Assessment method: Assessments are carried out in the workplace against nationally recognised criteria. At the end of each unit the learner is expected to pass a knowledge test under exam conditions.
