CELTA is an initial teacher training course, though participants may already have some teaching experience. It includes: analysis of English from a foreign learners point of view, development of language skills, resources, lesson planning, teaching, pronunciation and classroom management. Some courses look at teaching English from the ESOL teachers point of view.
We now incorporate the PTLLS qualification in CELTA courses. "Preparing to Teach English (ESOL) in the Lifelong Learning Sector" forms an integral part of the subsequent DTEELLS (Diploma in Teaching English …)
Teaching Practice
This is an integral part of the course. Trainees work in teams of 4 or 5 with a tutor and are expected to collaborate in groups when teaching classes. When not teaching, each member is expected to observe other team members and discuss lessons with the group and tutor afterwards.
Observation
During the course they have to observe six hours of teaching by experienced teachers and write full reports on observed lessons.
Course Structure:
The course includes input sessions on language awareness and methodology, observed teaching practice and observation of experienced teachers.
Course resources:
All students have access to our fully equipped state of the art learning centre. This included free internet access.
Assessment:
Assignments, teaching practice and lesson planning
Next step:
