Medical and Pharmacological Sciences BSc (Hons) degrees at Scarborough

  • This course balances perfectly in depth aspects of both medicine and the pharmaceutical industry, providing clear career information and how to get there. This is along with the opportunity to stay on at the university and gain a masters in pharmacology and drug discovery, as well as plenty of PhD opportunities for those students willing to work for it. All staff are available when they say they will be and only at the other end of an email, I have received an unbelievable level of support with absolutely everything I have done, whether that be personal, interview training, guidance with work I find difficult etc. The course is set 50% each way roughly by coursework and exams, coursework including essays, lab reports and leading on to writing full scientific articles - potentially worthy of publication or conferences. Final year also includes your own lab based project for your thesis, conducting your own research! Teaching is lecture, workshop and lab based, along with an element of independent study which is up to you if you want to achieve those higher grades. The level of lab experience we gain at this university is of an extremely high standard and focuses around making you an attractive and employable graduate.

  • This university suitable for anyone. I am really glad I choose Coventry such a lovely campus and city! Overall I think this is a great University with a diverse range of courses that have a lot to offer. There is always someone who can help you, you can not be bored because of the huge amount of programs and societies and the employment rate after graduation is really high. I would recommend this Uni to anyone willing to gain a diploma and enjoy a wonderful experience!

  • I am studying Medical Science and Pharmacological Sciences. It is a very interesting course and you can specialise and divert to any branch. Pharmacology is a great course to be in. I'd like to be a clinical research scientist and this idea came from many work placements I have done during summer. Last summer I worked with one of my lecturers and I was able to see her research on anticancer drugs.

  • My university experience has been good so far. The university staff were happy to help me change course even though I was moving across faculties from Automotive Engineering to English and Creative Writing. And I was able to do this several weeks into my original course which meant I didn't have to make it through my first year on a course I didn't enjoy before being able to change courses. The university offers many small-scale events such as webinars, group sessions and one to one workshops on employability and workplace skills ranging from presentation skills to CV writing to effective job searching. They also run large scale events like employability fairs that are specific to faculties so each faculty gets a chance to promote relevant employers and invite them in to talk to students. The course allows us to have a high degree of creative freedom in some of our modules whilst still maintaining a stricter and more academic approach in others. This allows us to explore our ideas in our university work without sacrificing the academic side of the experience meaning that we will be well prepared no matter what we go on to do after completing our undergraduate degrees.

  • It's been so good so far, I have a have learned so much and grown as a person. All the facilities at Coventry University are excellent and up to the requirements of modern educational system. As an international student I never thought I would find it the transition easy but I've grown to love my course and have a passion for my future. There are employment fairs quite often and for law specifically we have a third module each semester that tends to focus on transferable skills. Each faculty has an employment tutor as I've gathered. Lectures are very helpful and friendly providing guidance and assistance whenever needed or requested. The students union is pretty alright and takes steps to always keep us informed and interested in activities taking place around the university. The University’s facilities are at quite a very good standard.

Psychology and Criminology BSc (Hons) degrees at Scarborough

  • Criminology at Coventry university is really good, the staff is always friendly, approachable and incredibly engaging. The course is assessed entirely through coursework which is great for me because I have never been good with dealing with exam pressure. The course content is great and extensive and throughout the degree you are able to choose area which interest you the most to do your assessed work on. There are also links with numerous company's and charities for which you can volunteer to enhance your career prospects. Last year through the university I completed training in order to be an appropriate adult for West Midlands police, and experience I am thoroughly enjoying and grateful for.

  • Having engaged with the university in almost every way possible, I haven't regretted it. I have been an active part of a society including on the committee, travelled to China and worked for the CUSU. All of these things have made my experience in Coventry unforgettable. I wouldn't change it for the world. Regular extra-curricular employability and skills sessions (mock interviews and assessment centres) alongside a constantly updated Graduates and Vacation Scheme website. Great library. Mooting room is very effective. Academic is amazing and the counselling, mental health, and advice centres employees are second to none. More counselling staff are needed to support the students that need it, but those that are there are invaluable. Most societies engage in volunteer work which affects those in the community and volunteering projects in countries such as Morocco, Palestine and Jordan are available.

  • Lecturers at Coventry are all very supportive, and my degree content I find it relevant and engaging. There are great opportunities for social activities and international travel that I have participated in. A especial emphasis is placed on employability skills, through mandatory modules throughout the duration of the degree, the opportunity to undertake summer and a year long placement between year 2 and year 3 is also actively encouraged. Very good, academic staff and available and supportive when needed and wider university pastoral care services are accessible should you need to use them.

  • Clinical Physiotherapy is a great course at Coventry. Members of staff are on hand whenever you need them. The level of group work can be daunting at first but it is extremely valuable and provides you with skills along the way that you didn't realise you were picking up, there are also some extremely high marks to be earnt if you give enough time and effort to it. You will be presented with three different cases of diseases based around the respiratory system, cardiovascular system along with a final neurophysiological section. You will be assessed for each. The first is summative and consists of a presentation, second is formative and a presentation along with a full scientific leaflet, finally a A1 poster presentation presented in an open area of the university to your tutors along with anyone else who choses to join such as the head of school or the dean. This module can be very enjoyable and fulfilling with physical proof at the end of our hard work. Marks and feedback are also release extremely quickly which is always a positive thing!
