2. Course description For anyone currently working in or thinking of a career in the food and beverage industry, this diploma is an ideal qualification to have. It will ensure you're fully prepared for life in the catering industry and give you a diverse selection of service skills and knowledge that will be invaluable. You'll develop a good understanding of food and beverage in the service industry, learning what it means to deliver great customer service at all times. Alongside a deeper look at food safety and the importance of health and safety legislation in hospitality, we'll also focus on the serving of food and beverages to the public. There are a number of different option modules you can choose as well. You may want to learn how to provide an effective counter and take-away service, or develop a better understanding of how to handle and manage payments. Other topics will help you develop your menu knowledge and perfect the skill of promoting additional items or products to your customers.

3. Entry requirements As this is a Level 2 Diploma, you'll need to have some basic catering knowledge already to enroll on the course. This could be a Level 1 Diploma in professional cookery or food and beverage service. You may also have one or two years' industrial experience working in hotels, restaurants or cafes. You should also be able to demonstrate good literacy and numeracy skills, either with a Level 1 qualification or the relevant GCSEs at grade A - C. Equipment required No equipment required 5. Assessment method Much of this diploma can be studied in the workplace or in a real working environment at The Manchester College. Assessment will be largely via practical methods, but there will be some time spent in the classroom too, with portfolio based work and written questions.
