About this course
Students are required to have an NVQ L1 in a similar subject /or be educated up to GCSE standard. (A diagnostic test will be taken by every student - see below)
Students will need to be able to work independently in both practical and theory areas of study.
Students need a smart appearance, pleasant personality, good communication skills and be able to work independently and as part of a team...

One day per week is the minimum requirement at Corby George Street usually between 4pm to 9pm
You will need to purchase chef's whites and suitable safety shoes (not trainers), a knife set (approx £60), text books, stationery (files, pens, highlighter pens, paper, plastic wallets etc.), oven cloths and tea-towels.
Content
Areas covered include Personal Hygiene, Team Work, Food Health and Safety, Preparing and Cooking of Meat, Poultry, Fish, Vegetables, Soups, Sauces, Pastry Items and Dough Products.
Assessment
By continual on-going practical assessment throughout the course when in college and in the workplace. Theory is assessed by end of unit short answer written tests that are set by the awarding body. Both practical assessments and written tests need to be completed for each unit before it is put forward for verification.
Progression Students can progress onto NVQ L3 in Pastry, Food Prep and Cooking or Restaurant Supervisors in either full or part-time study.
